Launched in June 2009, UCA is the second sailing yacht by Italian designer Luca Brenta to be built by Knierim Yachtbau in the shipyard on the Kiel Canal. The Brenta 60 invites you to linger with thick cushions on curved coaming benches in the cockpit, which is open to the stern. The ultra-modern interior is dominated by white furniture, contrasted by the brown wenge floor.
Designed for day cruises, the UCA can be maneuvered by a small crew of two or even alone, despite its size of 18.62 m. Most of the equipment can be operated with the help of hydraulics and electric drive.
A ship like a design piece - beautifully shaped and precise, racy yet discreet, a highly modern and timeless elegance. The Brenta 60 is designed for day cruises and, despite its length of 18.62 meters and width of 4.28 meters, can also be manoeuvred by a small crew of two or even alone. The owner is absolutely delighted: "A simply magnificent boat!"
Experience so far has confirmed this. The yacht glides over smooth water in light to moderate breezes with a nimble ease. The fact that the Brenta 60 can also cope with much more uncomfortable conditions is due to the ratio of eight tons of keel ballast to 13.5 tons of total weight. The high uprighting moment is sufficient for a regatta racer.
But the concept is completely different. Gone are the days when muscle-bound mast men set the mainsail, which measures almost 130 square meters. The principle is the push of a button. On board, most things are done fully automatically with the help of hydraulics and electric drives. The 73 square meter headsail can also be operated from the cockpit as a furling jib. With a crew of two, the "UCA" sails comfortably, even with a gennaker on rough courses. And fast, of course - it couldn't be any other way.
Hull and deck (molded using a five-axis milling machine) as well as the structure were produced using high-quality carbon prepreg technology over a foam core under vacuum and baked at 85 degrees Celsius. The result is an extremely light and stiff boat that guarantees sailing fun with the objective of enjoyment and pleasure on short trips.
The eye is further spoiled at second glance. Not only the clean teak deck, but also the cockpit floor and benches - also made of teak - appear to be completely free of annoying fittings, steps and any tripping hazards. Halyards, outriggers and even the traveler are concealed.
Staying on board should be as pleasant as possible. The spacious cockpit, open to the aft, invites you to linger with its thick cushions on curved coaming benches. The wine comes at the perfect temperature from the wine cooler, which brings us to the generously designed galley below deck. The neon interior is white with silver-grey upholstery and a cabin table with a cherry wood top, on which the boat name UCA is proudly engraved. The wenge brown floor provides a pleasant contrast.
The owner's cabin is located in the foredeck and has its own wet room. The two aft cabins also have this. The high-quality navigation area does not flaunt any unnecessary technical bells and whistles, but is subject to strict functionality.
Particularly clever: from the outside, the Brenta 60 appears to have no windows at all. The dark-glass opening hatches, which provide subdued light and fresh air, are located in the second, inner coachroof, which is concealed under a kind of outer hood. On the one hand, this allows the designers to emphasize the flowing overall design. On the other hand, they prevent sheets, mooring lines or other ropes from getting caught anywhere and protect the openings from spray and rainwater at all times.
All in all, this piece of jewelry from Kiel is a real eye-catcher. It embodies modernity and a direction that should no longer be reserved for Mediterranean regions.
